I am not an accessibility expert, but one solution we tried was the following 
at

http://www.pariscaterers.com/corporate.html - where we tied the ALT text into 
the caption.  

I think the solution may, however, lie in the use of tables and how they are 
organized to read.  I will be interested to see what the list experts offer.
