Dear WAI Interest Group Member:

We are pleased to announce that W3C released the Authoring Tool
Accessibility Guidelines as a Proposed Recommendation today, October 26,
1999. The document will undergo review by W3C Member organizations through
Tuesday, November 23, 1999. The W3C Director's decision as to the
disposition of the proposal will be made within several weeks following the
close of the review period.

The Proposed Recommendation document is at
http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/PR-WAI-AUTOOLS-19991026 .

As a quick reference to the checkpoints defined in the Guidelines, please
note also the appendix checklist, available in two formats:
     http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/PR-WAI-AUTOOLS-19991026/checkpoint-table
     http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/PR-WAI-AUTOOLS-19991026/checkpoint-list

There is also a Techniques reference document available at
http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/WD-WAI-AUTOOLS-TECHS-19991026 which will become a
W3C Note when it is finalized. The Working Group welcomes additional input
into the Techniques document during the coming several weeks.

A hearty "thank you" to the Authoring Tool Guidelines Working Group,
including the Chair, Jutta Treviranus, and the WAI staff contact, Charles
McCathieNevile, who have been working long & hard on this document and who
responded to the many comments that came in during last call. A list of
comments received and changes made by the Working Group during last call is
available from the Authoring Tool Guidelines Working Group home page at
http://www.w3.org/WAI/AU . Thanks also to those of you on this list who
commented on the last call draft.

Regards,

Judy
