RE: multimedia definition

Gregg proposed the following definition for multimedia:

<blockquote>
Several different
media,
including at least one time based media, synchronized to convey
information. Media may include text, audio, graphics, animation, video,
and interactivity.

</blockquote>

Hmmm. I don't think of interactivity as a medium in its own right. I
think of interactivity as an aspect of the way content is used, but the
content itself might be text, or graphics, or audio or video.

Also, the purpose of synchronizing the media may not be "to convey
information" but to provide entertainment. Maybe the definition doesn't
need to say anything about the *purpose* of synchronizing the media.
Would the following rewrite work?
<proposed>
Several different media, including at least one time based media type,
integrated in a single presentation. Media may include text, audio,
graphics, animation, and video. Multimedia may be interactive.
</proposed>

Good point.

How about

Multimedia

Several different media <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium> ,
including at least one time based media, synchronized to convey
information. Media may include text, audio, graphics, animation, video,
and interactivity.

But we don't consider a combination just of text and graphics to be
multimedia.
