I hope we get more comments.

The user did not specify a transparent background so why did he get one?
Who decided this and on what basis? sure looks bad

Isn't this a guideline that needs to be changed?
if the user specifies "black background" that should apply to the positioned
content as well?

the text changes color well enough.

in the meantime this could be another good reason for offering default
style-sheets, which I've still not seen....
