Introduction to EOWG

Dear EOWG members

I have just joined the group and would like to introduce myself.

My name is Reinaldo Ferraz. I work for W3C Brazil Office (hosted by
NIC.br/CGI.br in São Paulo) as a Web Development Specialist . My first
contact with the Web was in 1995 and in 1998 I developed my first
webpage (with a huge image with 100 Kb at the homepage in a dial up
connection world) and since 2000 I have been working formerly with web
development. I started to work as web developer at NIC.br/CGI.br in 2004

I started to hear about web accessibility in 2007, in a conference in
Brazil when a group of specialists showed a video about the theme. When
the WCAG 2.0 was released in 2008 I started to study the documentation
to implement in the company website.

I was invited to be part of the W3C Brazil Office team in 2011 and since
them, I've been working to spread in Brazil the W3C Standards, specially
the Web Accessibility Standards (WCAG and ARIA). Our main victory was to
get the WCAG 2 in portuguese as an authorized translation last month,
coordinated by the office in Brazil in partnership with the team
responsible for the european-portuguese version of the document.

Web Accessibility is a key topic in Brazil. The government and CGI.br
(Brazilian Internet Steering Committee) are aware about this topic,
specially because the official number of people with disabilities is
more than 45 million people (approximately 24% of the brazilian population).

It's a pleasure to be part of this group. I met some members during the
last TPAC, and I hope I can help, contribute and specially learn with
this working group.

Best Regards
Reinaldo
