IBM Testing Voice-Based Web

Hi, folks,

Have you heard about IBM's "Spoken Web" project? I read about it in PC World -- http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/150938/ibm_testing_voicebased_web.html -- Leveraging the proliferation of mobile phones, IBM is working on a voice-based web. Users without Internet access could dial a toll-free number to access VoiceSites. I think this has powerful implications for emergency response or dissemination of e-government information, especially to illiterate, disabled, or non-Web-savvy citizens.

This could be a great convergence of the Mobile Web initiative, WAI, and the WAI-AGE. My WAI-AGE-target-group-parents may be baffled navigating a web site, but they're attached to their cell phones with speed dials conveniently programmed by the grandson.

Thoughts?
