Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR) Coming to Boston

Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR) Coming to Boston!

Boston-IA will be actively involved in bringing Knowbility's AIR
("Accessibility Internet Rally") program to the Boston area. P.J.
Gardner, founder of Boston-IA, has been appointed Program Director
for AIR-Boston.

AIR is a fun, high-powered web development competition, where teams
of web developers work with non-profit organizations to create web
sites that are accessible to people with disabilities. After a
two-week planning period, web developers pair up with non-profit
partners for one glorious day of "web-raisings", with prizes and
publicity for the winners. AIR is a lot of fun, a great way to
promote accessibility, and a wonderful way to support the work of
non-profit organizations in the greater Boston area.

Prior to Rally Day, training is provided to the web developers in
accessible web design and to the non-profit organizations in internet
marketing and content preparation. There are a host of
community-building and volunteer opportunities that support the
program, including a Team Match Kickoff party and an Awards Ceremony.
The entire program is directed by a local advisory board and
supported by corporate and industry sponsors.

AIR was founded in Austin, Texas, in 1998, (Jim Allen) and has now
been produced in many other cities around the country. Now it's
Boston's turn! Boston-IA members will work together with other
members of the local Boston community bring AIR to New England.

Our plan is to begin signing up teams this summer and to hold
training in the fall. We hope to have the first-ever Boston AIR Rally
in January 2007.
