Questions for decision 9 October
The period of open unstructured discussion in the WG is coming to an end
(reminder: the voting booth closes soon; if you haven't voted or wish
to revise your votes, do so now!), and on 9 October, the ERB will begin
voting on specific questions regarding the technical content of the XML
Our current plan is to vote on questions in batches: one batch each on
9, 16, 23, and 30 October. Each week, we will announce what questions
we expect to vote on at the next week's meeting, so that members of the
work group can make their views known on questions important to them.
On behalf of the ERB, I am about to send out a series of email messages
with the items to be decided next Wednesday, one item per message, to
make it easier to follow individual threads. As will be clear, some of
these are relatively non-controversial, at least as far as the ERB can
tell, while others need (further) discussion to clarify the pros and
cons of the issue.
If the ERB is described as leaning a particular way on an item, and you
agree, there is probably no need for comment; if you disagree, a note
giving the arguments in favor of the opposing view is in order.
When the ERB does not have a clear leaning, we need full discussion of
all sides of the question.
It should be noted in advance that not all of the questions are
perfectly independent of each other; the ERB is acutely aware that some
later decisions may require us to revisit earlier decisions, to ensure
consistency of the final result.
Thanks, and my apologies in advance for the avalanche of messages
which will follow this one by a few minutes.
