but he still fails to suggest how to avoid mistakes in the following:

Do I really have to a) escape every quote in my text (or use an entity
reference for it) b) enter required RE's as part of the quoted string?

If I have to do either of these I guarantee that half the documents I write
would be invalid XML if I made the mistake of trying to use it as an
authoring environment.
