Maybe someone has suggested this already, but a possible approach is to
treat the whole entity as one record, i.e. to disconnect the record
concept from the line concept. (One could use End Of Transmission
character to signify RE, I guess: presumably this would be stripped out by
the network session handler and reinserted by the entity handler.)
