You can put an XMLDSIG into your document; this is the "enveloped" style 
of signature.

WS-Security says to use detached signatures, putting the signature in 
the SOAP header and pointing to the message in the SOAP body.

You are not required to use WS-Security if it doesn't meet your needs. :)
