An attempt to accomodate Keith's concern is reflected in <http://www.access.digex.net/~asgilman/uri/news/draft-gilman-news-url-02.txt> I did not move the snews variant to an appendix because of an uncertain availability for standardized TLS negotiated over the NNTP port. But I did separate out its discussion and put it under a "may be deprecated [in the future]" cloud in respect of Keith's concerns to maximize the security of the _standard_ architecture.
