Is sharing .mbox files of a public mailng list allowed?

So this seems like a silly question but it bothers me several times now.

I've long noticed that the .mbox files of a public mailing list (linked
from any arhive under the title "Mailbox format") are Member-only. I
believe it is some kind of mistake, but I still want to get nod from the
W3C Team before I share those files, which are useful for a newcomer of
a list.

The "Intellectual Rights FAQ - W3C"[1] doesn't seem to mention who holds
the copyright of the mails in a public mailing list, but I assume
copyright isn't a big issue given that there are gmane mirrors of
serveral popular W3C mailing lists.
