Layout Concerns

I look forward to trying the columns feature you show using css.

The problem I have with your front page is that it is too dense with  
information and the page is too long. Scrolling down such a long page  
makes tracking the lines of information difficult: it is easy to get  
lost trying to locate a part of the page.  Consider reducing the  
amount of information on the front page to general categorical links  
and have information about those items on a separate page. Consider  
making the page layout such that the entire front page can be viewed  
at about 70% the height of a standard 17" monitor and about 60% of  
the width.  Although many folks have 19" monitors and larger, most of  
us still have 17" ones and those using laptops have even smaller  
monitors.
