Hi, If you're looking for a very readable and general audience friendly book, I highly recommend Linked Data: Structured Data on the Web (Manning, 2013) by David Wood, Marsha Zaidman, Luke Ruth.[1] It was written for a general Web 2.0 audience and provides fascinating insights on history and current use of Linked Data by household names - BBC, Google, Amazon, IBM and many federal governments worldwide. The Linked Data book has gotten 5-star reviews on Amazon, including one from me. Two chapters are available online for free -- the introductory chapter and chapter 3 on "Consuming Linked Data".[2] Here is an except from my review: "The author team is comprised of professional computer science educators and pragmatic developers. They provide tons of helpful examples and guidance on exactly where to get started, including an up-to-date Linked Data Developers site. The authors explain the importance of RDF as one of the three defined data models that underlie all other W3C standards. It is fitting that Tim Berners-Lee, the Director of the international Web standards body, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) supplied a thoughtful forward to this helpful, friendly introduction to data on the Web." A great new site for data enthusiasts is the Linked Data Developer web site listing published books for developers, executives and academics.[3] Sample applications and code listings for books, where available, are also made available. The majority of these books are generously provided for free in electronic form by the authors & publishers.[3] Interestingly, the site itself was built on the Open Source project Callimachus by a recent graduate who took the first undergraduate Linked Data class (that I'm aware of) in 2011. There is a sweet virtuous circle happening here :-) Note to authors of LD books: If you have a book you'd like added to this site, please email the link on the home page. This is an open site run as a community service. Shorter, peer reviewed references that may be useful for a quick overview include the W3C Linked Data Glossary and the Linked Data Cookbook. [4], [5] Expert friendly resources on RDF out of the turbo-charged RDF Working Group are organized by Recommendation, Proposed Recommendation, WG Notes and Working Drafts are listed here.[6] Cheers, Bernadette Hyland || http://about.me/bernadettehyland [1] http://www.amazon.com/Linked-Data-David-Wood/dp/1617290394/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392395501&sr=8-1&keywords=linked+data+structured+data+on+the+web [2] http://www.manning.com/dwood [3] http://linkeddatadeveloper.com [4] http://www.w3.org/TR/ld-glossary/ [5] https://www.w3.org/2011/gld/wiki/Linked_Data_Cookbook [6] http://www.w3.org/2011/rdf-wg/wiki/Main_Page On Feb 13, 2014, at 12:11 PM, ProjectParadigm-ICT-Program <metadataportals@yahoo.com> wrote: > I have been asked to provide a shortlist of recent publications or reference books (no more than 5 books) on the semantic web and linked data. > > This list is to be used by librarians, social scientists and linguists, scientists at large, and in applied research and innovation. > > Is there any blog or wiki which has references or keeps track of publications/ > > Milton Ponson > GSM: +297 747 8280 > PO Box 1154, Oranjestad > Aruba, Dutch Caribbean > Project Paradigm: A structured approach to bringing the tools for sustainable development to all stakeholders worldwide by creating ICT tools for NGOs worldwide and: providing online access to web sites and repositories of data and information for sustainable development > > This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
