CALL FOR PAPERS
===============

Many people have approached the problem of investigating the evolution of documents and data from different perspectives, e.g. by comparing and versioning. The goal of this workshop is to share ideas, common issues and principles, and to foster research collaboration on these topics. The workshop will further allow researchers to showcase recent developments on diff and versioning tools. Contributions from related areas, e.g., software engineering, collaboration, or ontology management, are also welcome.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Change tracking:

* Detecting changes on complex data structures
* Diagram diff
* Diff algorithms
* High-level differences (e.g., between ontologies, specs)
* Model evolution
* Novel approaches to tree-based diff
* Change representation

Finding changes on trees, graphs, diagrams and any kind of document:

* Edit-distance measures
* Human-oriented diff
* Modelling changes
* Representation of deltas
* Quality of generated patches

Change analysis and interpretation:

* Document and schema refactoring
* Editing patterns
* Evolution of data and metadata
* Model refactoring
* Semantic diff

Merging:

* Management of update conflicts
* N-way merge algorithms
* Propagation of changes

Applications:

* Collaborative editors
* Use of diff algorithms in humanities
* User interfaces for versioning
* Versioning systems

Program and keynote
-------------------

The workshop will run a half day, and be divided in two parts, in order to emphasize both theoretical/algorithmic aspects and practical applications. Ample space will be given to peer discussions and brainstorming about the results of the presentations and the ideas brought forth by participants.

The keynote will be given by Ethan Munson, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

A detailed schedule will be announced in July.

Paper submission
----------------

Original papers from the above-mentioned or other related areas will be considered. Two types of submissions are possible:

* Application/demo notes: 2-4 pages long, showcasing systems or tools;
* Research papers: 4-8 pages long, describing original and unpublished research.

All papers must conform to the ACM SIG Proceedings format. Papers must be submitted to the EasyChair site for DChanges 2013. All submissions will undergo a rigorous single blind review process.

Important Dates
---------------

Papers must be submitted to the EasyChair site <http://diff.cs.unibo.it/dchanges2013>. The submission system will be open in May.

* Papers and notes are due: June 30th, 2013
* Acceptance notice: July 17th, 2013
* Camera ready: July 31st, 2013
* Workshop: September 10th, 2013

Proceedings
-----------

Details on the publication venue for the proceedings will be available soon. Digital copies of the proceedings will be available during the workshop.

Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit an extended version of their work to an international journal.
