The Web Information Systems (WIS) group in TU Delft (Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands) has a PhD position available in

Web Data Management, Web Data Analysis or User Modeling.

The WIS group concentrates in its research on the engineering and science of the web, specifically on the management and analysis of web data for the purpose of the engineering of web-based information systems. Main topics in the group's research activities are:

* Web data management:
- Web data and semantics: integrating and linking data in web-based information systems
- Web-based crowdsourcing and human computation: involving web users and communities in the solution of hard computational tasks
* Web data analysis:
- Web analysis and user modeling: understanding users in web-based information systems
- Web information retrieval: analyzing, filtering and retrieving data from the web

The WIS group is a young research group that has achieved in a short period a very good track record in these areas and is participating in most of the related major international forums. It therefore offers an exciting and stimulating environment for ambitious PhD candidates. More information about the Web Information System group can be found at http://www.wis.ewi.tudelft.nl.

Candidates should have a Master degree in computer science or related disciplines. Ideally, they have followed a fair number of the following courses in their degree: databases, machine learning, information retrieval, computational linguistics, large-scale data processing, semantic web, and web data management. The candidates should have good communicative skills in English, both in speaking and in writing. We are looking for candidates with good programming skills and the ability to implement prototypical systems efficiently. We offer the chance to perform high-quality and cutting-edge research in an international environment, while working in close collaboration with the members of the WIS group at TU Delft.

The instructions on how to submit an application can be found at http://www..wis.ewi.tudelft.nl/vacancies/
