ECOWS 2011 will be hosted by the Faculty of Informatics of the
University of Lugano, Switzerland.

Lugano, the largest town in the holiday region of Ticino, is not only
Switzerland's third most important financial centre and a conference,
banking and business city, but also a town of parks and flowers, villas
and sacred buildings. With Mediterranean flair, Lugano offers all the
advantages of a world-class city, combined with the cachet of a small
town. The Ceresio lake has numerous activities to offer to sports
lovers, to those wanting to visit corners that are unreachable by land
or simply who want to discover enchanting spots or get a taste of the
excellent seafood that is served in the various restaurants and grottos
situated along its shores. Mountain enthusiast will also find plenty of
routes and excursions to explore the beautiful landscape of the region.

Lugano is conveniently located in the center of Europe. In addition to
the proximity with a major international airport (MXP), Lugano also
features its own small airport (LUG) with frequent connections to three
major European hubs (ZRH, GVA, FCO).

The Faculty of Informatics at the University of Lugano (USI) was founded
in 2004 and stands out as a centre of excellence in software and service
engineering research. In a matter of very few years, it has become one
of Switzerland’s major poles for teaching and research, hosting 22
faculty members and more than one hundred Post-doctoral and Pre-doctoral
researchers. The Faculty aims to train informatics experts that are
interdisciplinary in approach, with abstract thinking and problem
solving skills, a sound knowledge in the application fields of
information technologies, as well as teamwork, interpersonal
communication and project-management abilities.
