Linked Data with GI - Workshop and Tutorial, GISRUK 2011 University of
Portsmouth 26th April 2011

The Linked Data Web is rapidly growing part of the Web that enables
data to be published and interlinked in much the same was as documents
are currently published and linked. Linked Data is increasingly being
used to published Geographic Information including Geonames,
OpenStreetMap (as Linked Open GeoData) and Ordnance Survey data. In the
US and the UK the respective governments are encouraging government
departments and agencies to publish their data as Linked Data. The
value and advantages of Linked Data are also being recognised within the
scientific community and the cultural heritage sector, with an
increasing number of catalogues being exposed as Linked Data.

For those working with Geographic Information Linked Data will become
increasingly important. Producers of GI need to understand how to
organise, describe and publish Linked Data; those wishing to use GI need
to understand how to search for and consume Linked Data.
