Job Opening: Researcher at FTW

The Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation Wien (FTW) <http://www.ftw.at/>  is a dynamic company with an international atmosphere that carries out application-oriented research in telecommunications.

Currently we are hiring for the following position:


Researcher: Information Systems for Energy Efficiency


 

The Telecommunications Research Center Vienna (FTW, webpage: http://www.ftw.at <http://www.ftw.at/> ) has an opening for a Researcher in the area of information systems for energy efficiency. The candidate will start his/her work in an FFG-funded joint project between FTW and four industrial partners in Austria and Eastern Europe. The project aims to facilitate home owners and building managers in saving energy within their environments and in optimizing their energy costs, while actively controlling and maintaining their preferred quality of living. FTW coordinates the project and will mainly focus on the semantic representation and reasoning of the information arriving from sensors, as well as on the design, prototyping and end-user evaluation of novel energy efficiency services.


Tasks:


-      Formulate and find solutions for research questions in the area of information systems, services and applications for energy efficiency 

-      Develop/prototype innovative tools, platform components or end-user solutions in the field of smart metering and building automation

-      Collaborate with project partners on the project's technical solutions, exploitation perspectives and documentation

-      Publish and present research work at international workshops, conferences, journals

 


Qualification requirements:


-      A university degree in computer science, informatics, electrical engineering or related fields 

-      Fluency in written and spoken English

-      Highly self-motivated style of working, organizational skills 

-      Creative problem solving, communication and presentation skills 

-      Ability to prototype in Java (J2SE, Servlets) or a scripting language

-      Knowledge of basic XML, Web, Web service technologies (XHTML, CSS, JavaScript)

-      Experience with Semantic Web, Semantic Web service and Web 2.0 technologies and tools is a plus (e.g., RDF/S, OWL, N3, Jena, Sesame, OWL-S, WSMO, JSON, AJAX, Widgets)
