Dear all, thanks for your helpful replies! First of all, the problem has solved in our particular case, as we found out that the inheritance of complete metadata records (i.e. resource 1 saying "I want to inherit all metadata from resource 2") had erroneously been specified. We figured out that metadata inheritance as we actually want it is "safe" and then focused on other aspects, such as reasonably representing inherited metadata in RDF; see http://www.dfki.de/pipermail/users.activemath.org/2009-December/thread.html if you are interested. @Steffen: The trust problem is a good point, but does not apply in our case. Here, in a knowledge base maintained by a few trustworthy editors, the only danger would have been that somebody accidentally created inconsistencies. @Jiří: Thanks for pointing me to rdfg:Graph and SPIN, good to know!
