The British University in Dubai seeks to appoint a Professor in the
Institute of Informatics. The institute which currently offers MSc
studies is partnered with the 5* rated School of Informatics at the
University of Edinburgh. Experience of working in international contexts
and teaching multicultural groups is essential. Experience of the Middle
East is desirable.

Requirements:
Applicants should have:


• International standing and a strong track record of research in one of
the areas that the Institute is seeking to develop namely speech and
language engineering, learning from data or knowledge management.

• Experience of developing, securing funding for and managing research
projects.

• A keen interest in developing a research profile contributing to BUiD
and UoE. This can be in a one of the areas listed above.

• Experience of post-graduate teaching and research supervision in the
subject of Informatics at PhD and Masters level.

• The ability and willingness to develop teaching materials and deliver
a generic taught programme in informatics as well as supervise the
learning agenda of students studying a sector specific theme on the
programme.

• Interest and willingness to develop learning approaches using new
technologies and a genuine interest in student centred approaches to
learning and teaching. A willingness to engage or take a lead in
instructional design will be advantageous.

• Knowledge and experience of Dubai, the UAE and Middle East is desirable.

• Well developed team work and communications skills.

• The ability and willingness to be a proactive team member is important.

• Willingness and ability to interact with specialists from the public
and private sector in the fields of curriculum development and research
formulation. An “industry facing” perspective is essential.


Research Roles

All BUiD staff are expected to be research active and to publish in
international journals. BUiD is seeking significant research funding.
BUiD staff will be expected to interact with the UAE private and public
sectors and also with UoE staff to develop research activity.


Teaching Roles

The holder of this position s expected to teach at least one module per
semester on the MSc in IT programme. He or she is also expected to
participate in the supervision of MSc dissertations.


Qualifications

Successful candidates will ideally already hold a Chair and must have a
PhD, with a strong and growing publications record evidencing excellent
potential for further research. Teaching experience in higher education
is essential. Ability to teach transferable skills as well as subject
area would be advantageous.
