Re: Preliminary Editors' Draft: XProc V.next Requirements and Use Cases

The working group is hereby notified that the editors are continuing to work on the Editors' Working Draft of XProc V.next Requirements and Use Cases. A new draft is forthcoming. Section numbers from Section 2-5 will remain intact and may be referenced with some reliability until further notice.

We are soliciting feedback on the following...

1.) We are seeking a discussion of high-level Goals for XProc V.next. For example, "Improved ease of use", "Support for non-XML inputs", and so on. The editors intend to enumerate the Working Group's high-level goals for XProc V.next to guide our efforts, and these may ultimately inform 3 Design Principles.

2.) The table that appears in Section 1.1.2 presents the Requirements and corresponding Use Cases. We note that many Use Cases are not associated with a Requirement, and welcome suggestions as to the correspondence to Requirements for Use Cases 5.4-8, 5.10, 5.12-14, 5.17-20, 5.22, 5.25-26 and 5.28. The final column will be filled in when we have gathered sufficient information.

3.) Section 4 details each Requirement. We welcome suggestions, in the form of references to the XProc spec, references to test cases, or XProc code examples, to explain or demonstrate how each Requirement has been satisfied.

4.) Section 5 details each Use Case. We welcome suggestions, in the form of references to the XProc spec, references to test cases, or XProc code examples, to explain how each Use Case has been satisfied.

5.) In the event that a Requirement or Use Case has been only partially satisfied, or where additional functionality or improvements upon XProc V1 might be warranted, we welcome discussion on this mailing list.

6.) Gotta catch an airplane. More to come...
