what does p:episode actually mean ?

p:episode
'Returns a string which should be unique for each invocation of the
pipeline processor.'

can we scope the 'unique' bit here ..... does this mean runtime
unique, or something like  datetime unique ?

is the idea that this will be salt for being able to generate a random
number from this ?
