Transition Request: XInclude 1.1 to First Public Working Draft

The XML Core WG requests transition of

XML Inclusions (XInclude) Version 1.1

currently staged at

http://www.w3.org/XML/2012/10/WD-xinclude-11-20121009/

to a First Public Working Draft of a recommendation-track
document.

It also requests approval of xinclude-11 as the short name.

The URL cited above is for the most recent draft
version of the note as of 3 October 2012, designed to
be published on October 9 by having the directory
moved over to

http://www.w3.org/TR/2012/WD-xinclude-11-20121009/

in its entirety. We believe it satisfies all relevant
pubrules.

This is the first publication of this document. The associated
requirements document is
XInclude 1.1 Requirement and Use Cases
at
http://www.w3.org/TR/2012/NOTE-xinclude-11-requirements-20120214/

The WG's decision to request transition to an FPWD was taken
during a WG telcon on October 3 whose minutes may be found at
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-xml-core-wg/2012Oct/0009

SCHEDULE

We propose a publication date of 9 October 2012.

PROPOSED TITLE, ABSTRACT AND STATUS SECTIONS

XML Inclusions (XInclude) Version 1.1

Abstract
--------
This document specifies a processing model and syntax for general
purpose inclusion. Inclusion is accomplished by merging a number
of XML information sets into a single composite infoset.
Specification of the XML documents (infosets) to be merged and
control over the merging process is expressed in XML-friendly
syntax (elements, attributes, URI references).

Status of this Document
-----------------------
This section describes the status of this document at the time of its
publication. Other documents may supersede this document. A list of
current W3C publications and the latest revision of this technical
report can be found in the W3C technical reports index at
http://www.w3.org/TR/.

This is a First Public Working Draft of XInclude 1.1 for review by
W3C Members and other interested parties.

XInclude 1.1 adds some upward-compatible enhancements to the
XInclude 1.0 Recommendation as discussed in the XInclude 1.1
Requirement and Use Cases document. The three key enhancements
can be summarized as follows:

* added support for a fragment identifier into text/plain content,

* additional processing to allow for "annotating" the post-included
   infoset with further information, and

* allow implementations the flexibility to support additional |parse|
   values.

This document has been produced by the W3C XML Core Working Group
<http://www.w3.org/XML/Core/> as
part of the XML Activity <http://www.w3.org/XML/Activity>. The Working
Group expects to advance this
Working Draft to Recommendation Status.

Please send comments about this document to the public
www-xml-xinclude-comments@w3.org mailing list; archives are available.

Publication as a Working Draft does not imply endorsement by the W3C
Membership. This is a draft document and may be updated, replaced or
obsoleted by other documents at any time. It is inappropriate to cite
this document as other than work in progress.

This document was produced by a group operating under the 5 February 2004
W3C Patent Policy. W3C maintains a public list of any patent disclosures
made in connection with the deliverables of the group; that page also
includes instructions for disclosing a patent. An individual who has
actual knowledge of a patent which the individual believes contains
Essential Claim(s) must disclose the information in accordance with
section 6 of the W3C Patent Policy.
