In my schema document collect ( a bit > 1000 schema documents) I find
the following usage counts

xml:space     0
xml:lang      > 6000 (value en/EN/us-en)
xml:lang      > 600 (other values)
xml:lang      0 (empty value)
xml:lang//xml:lang  1 [probably an accident]
xml:base      0
