Introduction: Johnathan Nightingale (mozilla)

Howdy folks,

I know we've mostly exited introduction season as a group, but I did always like to make an entrance.

As Mike Beltzner may have intimated in the past, I am the recent addition to the Mozilla team tasked with Security and Usability in Firefox. At least half the people to whom I mention this are skeptical at the idea that a whole 6'5" person can fit in the tiny little overlap of *that* Venn diagram, but I suspect I'm not the only such person on this list. You are all, truly, my people.

I've got an academic background in computer science, artificial intelligence and cognitive science. Professionally, I spent several years working as a developer with IBM before moving to their User-Centered Design group and then, 2 years later, to my current position with Mozilla. I've always had an interest in issues of web security, indeed one of my first introductions to some of my Mozilla colleagues was when I alerted them to a set of problems with their web storefront. I'm sorry to say that the holes have since been closed, and the little plush Firefoxen are no longer available for you to pilfer. I hope you'll not think me the worse for it.

>From what I heard on the last call, it seems like I came in at a great time. While it's obviously preferable to be a part of the initial scoping and direction-finding work, it does seem like I've arrived at a natural entry point as we move into technical definition work and public drafts. Looking forward to working with you all, and please don't hesitate to ping me at the slightest provocation. johnath on IRC, johnath@gmail on GTalk, and other IM services as needed.

Cheers,

Johnathan
