global and per-channel scope
 - bytes sent/received
 - chunks sent/received
 - messages sent/received
global scope
 - stream count (instantaneous)
 - reset stream count
channel scope
 - opened, acknowledged, negotiated (channel property?)

I don't think that there is much need for much more than that.  I
might easily be convinced to remove some of these.
