Yes, there has been some previous work in this space that could be built on. The Credentials CG has been engaging Mike West, editor of the Credential Management API [1] for a while now. The Credentials CG believes that, with Mike's fantastic help, there have been enough changes to the Credential Management API to accommodate an extension in this area.
