Introduction

Hi folks,

I recently joined Ripple Labs in the role of Web Standards Officer, and my
first order of business is to introduce myself to to the IG, where I will
be dedicating a lot of my time.

I think the fact that Ripple Labs have appointed a full-time standards
officer speaks for itself in affirming our dedication to open standards.
Having spent some time with the rest of the Ripple Labs team over the last
few weeks I am inspired by their dedication to making the Internet of
Value/ Value Web a reality and I'm excited to be representing them on this
journey.

My background is varied, including many years as a software engineer on a
variety of stacks and a long time fascination with Web technology. My
earliest exposure to the W3C was attendance at a Device APIs workshop in
London back in 2008 while working at dotMobi. Since 2009 I have been in
South Africa working in the retail payments industry for software vendors,
payment processors and payment system integrators, most recently focused on
research and product development at Stanchion Payments Solutions.

I have been applying my mind to the web payments space for some time,
started a personal crusade for open payments data exchange (OpenPayee.org)
almost two years ago and then came across the Web Payments CG where I have
been an active individual participant since.

As Ripple Labs we'll be focusing mostly on the Web Payments and Credentials
work at the W3C however I will be participating where possible in other
appropriate groups (such as the new Crypto Ledgers CG).

I will be taking over from Evan Schwartz as Ripple Lab's AC rep at the W3C
and also in chairing the Web Settlement Task Force within this group. I
will be joining the call later today and look forward to meeting many of
you in New York in June.

I am currently based in South Africa (UTC+2) but intend on moving to San
Francisco to base myself at the Ripple Labs HQ in the coming months.
