RE: New member introduction

Hello WebFonts WG,

My name is Peter Müller and I have joined the Web Fonts WG on behalf of my employer, Siteimprove.

I have been a frontend web developer since around 2003 with heavy focus on single page web applications in javascript and tooling around workflow automation.
In my daily work I lead a team of engineers in building a web performance monitoring saas product, where I pull on my decade long experience of optimizing frontend web performance.

In my career I have built a lot of tools to help frontend developer automate performance optimizations like bundling, minifying etc. In the last few years I have been especially interested in optimizing font loading, as it plays a very important role in the critical rendering path of most pages, yet getting a speedy font load is extremely difficult. With the motivation of improving this situation with tooling I set out to build https://www.npmjs.com/package/subfont, a tool that automates font usage analysis and creates exact subsets for your usage and rewires your frontend code to load these subsets in the most efficient way possible.

So my primary motivation for joining the group is to help improve the simplicity of achieving great performance without having to be a web font expert or having to sacrifice on your layout. I think the current charter has a great potential to achieve that goal. I come at this from a frontend and tooling developers perspective and with no prior insights into the previous specs produced by this WG, so I will be learning as we go along.

Subject: New member introduction

Hello WebFonts WG,

We have a new member who has just joined the group - Peter Brandt Müller from Siteimprove.
Welcome Peter, and if you could please reply to this message and introduce yourself to the group it will also confirm that the email list is updated and everything is working as it should.

The WebFonts WG has recently been re-chartered<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2FFonts%2FWG%2Fwebfonts-2018.html&data=02%7C01%7Cpbm%40siteimprove.com%7C4118974f22bd472f39c408d6d55227f3%7Cad30e5bc301d40dba10a0e8d40abe0f9%7C1%7C1%7C636930946171546070&sdata=%2BkTHFYKVjdctJEDEwF3kl4R8UKBhb9ajtg86Y6qIzns%3D&reserved=0> and conducts their business mostly on this email list. We do plan to have the GitHub repository once the activities pick up. The email list is visible to public and also has public web archive<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flists.w3.org%2FArchives%2FPublic%2Fpublic-webfonts-wg%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cpbm%40siteimprove.com%7C4118974f22bd472f39c408d6d55227f3%7Cad30e5bc301d40dba10a0e8d40abe0f9%7C1%7C1%7C636930946171556067&sdata=uliqR%2BgELb4J43Wfba8QJ8YHubrw0Uu2%2FWwg0fLqe0o%3D&reserved=0>, which is a useful tool if you'd like to review prior discussions that already happened since the WG was formed in December 2018. I will also forward you the information about our weekly call setup.

Welcome to the WebFonts WG!
Vlad
