RE: TrueType/OpenType fonts

Hi Mariam,

W3C has developed WOFF format that allows web developers to use any fonts they want or need. The first version of the format has been finalized in 2012 and is available at https://www.w3.org/TR/WOFF/, there is a new version currently under development that will soon be published as W3C Candidate Recommendation (and is available as a working draft): https://dev.w3.org/webfonts/WOFF2/spec/

Both WOFF 1.0 and WOFF 2.0 formats provide a mechanism that allows to package an OpenType font into a compressed format that will be loaded by a browser, uncompressed and used as a temporary local font resource. The vast majority of existing web browsers offer full support for WOFF 1.0 and a number of them also implemented support for the newer format: http://caniuse.com/#feat=woff

Hope this helps to answer your questions,
Vladimir

Subject: TrueType/OpenType fonts

Hi,

I have a question about WebFonts. I am using the Opentype font (.otf) in my project and I want to now if the TrueType/OpenType is officially supported by the W3C?

Thank you in advance !

Best regards,
Mariam Jaouadi
