[W3C Web Crypto WG] about bug 25839 (Curve25519 Named Curve) : call for opinion in order to resolve the bug

Hi all,

Looking at the thread related to the inclusion of Curve25519 algorithm, I would sumup the situation as follow :
- Inclusion of several new algorithms in our spec has been requested in the bug discussion : curve25519, Brainpool curves, MSR curves
- Some of them are already in used for some markets/applications and available in some environments, nevertheless it is not implemented in all platforms, and thus not available to a majority of browsers (which was one of the criteria for selecting the current list of algorithms in the Web Crypto API)
- I did not see in the thread browser makers expressing interest for such algorithms except Microsoft for the MSR curves and Mozilla (via Henri Sivonen) for the curve25519

Assuming that my sumup is fair, and that a feature in the Web Crypto API will stay in the final recommendation, only if there are two successful implementations, the proposed resolution for this bug is :
- Lets collect on our wiki the list of requested algorithms together with the potential browser maker support [1]
- In case there are 2 envisaged implementations declared on our wiki page for a specific algorithm, then let's find an editor and specify the specific algorithm usage in a separate specification (a module, that would complement the current Web Crypto API, which will have its own document life track (FPWD, LC, REC, ...))

==> Any opinion on this bug resolution proposal ? (expression of support, rejection, amendment is expected here...)

Thanks for keeping Matt Corallo, Brian LaMacchia, Greg Slepak, Henri Sivonen in cc/ so that they can actually follow the WG participants discussion. The result of the discussion will be injected in the bugzilla tracker.

Regards,
Virginie Galindo
Chair of the web crypto WG
