in an ideal world any Fido key would work with any iOS app via HID and a simple lightning to USB-A adaptor like the cámara connector kit. Currently that isn't the case on iOS 13 and older. The lightning hint helps RP know if a previously registers credential is from A Apple certified MFi lightning device that can work with Brave , Dashlane and others on iOS. I am encouraged that from the Safari point of view lightning is just like USB and will be using the HID endpoint. The Yubikey 5Ci will work just fine that way.
