Re: PR #217 factored into 8 PRs, each with defined purpose and scope

I would like to take the opportunity to encourage everyone who is
participating in the FIDO Barcelona plenary and has particular
interest in any of these PRs to review them prior to this event so we
can spend F2F time discussing areas of concerns, if any.
