Yes, that is very true, although there was some work done last year or so on web platform tests, by Travis Leithead, I believe. Anyway, we are trying in building a [community ](https://www.w3.org/community/maps4html/)to change the status as abandonware. Having a custom element that we can work with would be a great start for our community.
