FYI: I plan on reviewing and working with @domenic on landing https://github.com/whatwg/dom/pull/279 and https://github.com/whatwg/html/pull/1510 this week. That will close this issue per https://github.com/w3c/webcomponents/issues/512#issuecomment-230764837.
