Some applications may on a high level overlap what FIDO does, some may do pretty different things. The (from my horizon NB...), most obvious applications are mobile payment systems (aka "Wallets"), that unlike Apple, Google, Samsung, etc., do not build on emulating legacy "card" technology. There are tons of such systems in use today and they are either based on QR scanning or that the user enters his/her mobile phone number.
