Point taken. It is possible to start iterating the required API additions before actually adding it to the spec (to not delay implementations of v1), but as Zoltan pointed out, W3C standards are attempting to be very use-case oriented today so a first step would be for you to clearly define these use-cases for us, preferable in separate GitHub issues.
