[W3C Webmob] Identity Breakout

Hi all!

Thank-you to Frode and Terence for joining the call today! We discussed the items below and came to some actions. It seems there are a number of issues with identity including defining identity, stakeholders, what a web interface should look / act like and how users want to manage their identities. We think many of these topics will be discussed at the Web Cryptography Next Steps Workshop in September (http://www.w3.org/2012/webcrypto/webcrypto-next-workshop/Overview.html).

So, for now, we would like to note down use cases for identity on mobile which work across platforms including native apps, solutions which run over particular networks and others. Also we want to offer help to the Web Cryptography team to suggest that we might be able to help them with the work which comes out of the workshop. See more details in the notes below and look out for emails from me on the work as it progresses!

Natasha

Identity Breakout Call Discussion Topics
Type of Work
- Bigger topic then mobile
- There are many stakeholders, and many topics
- Look forward to web crypto group workshop
- Lots of stuff happening in the UK, including proving identity
- Is there a way that we can use the SIM card, as a hardware token?
- Must be broader than the SIM

Meaning of Identity
- What do we mean by identity? Individuals may want to say different things to different identity providers
- Stakeholders also want different things
- These different types of "identity" may have different requirements

FIDO Alliance
- Very open approach
- Identity binding

Is there scope for other work?
- There is a need for a web interface
- Could be a HTTP primitive
- Could pass identity of another provider and use this (e.g. identity:XXXXXX from some provider)
- Matching server side and client side identity
