On September 21-22, 2011, the Web and TV Interest Group held its first F2F meeting in Hollywood, California, hosted by Comcast following the third Web and TV Workshop on September 19-20, 2011. The minutes from the meeting are publicly available at: http://www.w3.org/2011/09/21-22-webtv-f2f-minutes.html Here are the highlights: Interest Group Report: ----------------------- We reviewed all the key issues raised during the three Web and TV workshops (=Tokyo workshop, Berlin workshop and Hollywood workshop) and clarified the current status of each issue and what should be done for the next steps. We updated the Interest Group based on the discussion during the F2F meeting and published it. The updated report is now available at: http://www.w3.org/2011/webtv/wiki/Web_and_TV_Interest_Group_Report_201109 It is expected that the requirements in the above group report will drive W3C Working Group activity, which defines new standards for the Web, starting this fall. We will continue to update the report based on the progress of the group's work. The latest version URI for the report is: http://www.w3.org/2011/webtv/wiki/Web_and_TV_Interest_Group_Report Task Force discussions: ----------------------- As described in the group charter [1], our strategy is creating a dedicated Task Force to hold detailed discussion to clarify actual requirements for Web and TV issues. And we have created the following two Task Forces and have been discussing key issues, because we thought they were the highest priority: * Home Network Task Force - discusses issues on Web and CE devices in Home Network * Media Pipeline Task Force - discusses issues on video streaming for Web and TV During the F2F meeting, both the above task forces had discussions on the Web and TV requirements raised during their weekly telephone conferences. The Home Network Task Force has already completed its charter period at the end of August, and has generated a requirements document based on the Task Force discussion. Now the Home Network Task Force Requirements document is available at: http://www.w3.org/2011/webtv/wiki/HNTF/Home_Network_TF_Requirements The Task Force will continue its work on the Web and TV public mailinglist to finalize the above requirements document. The Media Pipeline Task Force also has been discussing requirements for video, audio and media interfaces in the Web and TV context, and is now generating a draft document for the Media Pipeline Task Force Requirements at: http://www.w3.org/2011/webtv/wiki/MPTF/MPTF_Requirements During the F2F meeting, the Task Force had detailed discussion on the open issues listed on the Media Pipeline Discussion Wiki [4], and clarified (1) key gaps between the industry expectation and the existing technology, e.g., HTML5, and (2) what should be included as actual requirements in the requirements document. Joint meetings with the other groups during TPAC 2011: ------------------------------------------------------ The W3C is holding the Technical Plenary and Advisory Committee Meeting (TPAC) 2011 on October 31-November 4 in Santa Clara, and many W3C Working Groups are holding their F2F meetings there. We the Web and TV Interest Group are not planning to hold our own F2F meeting this time because it is only one month since the previous meeting. However, we will meet with related Working Groups, e.g., HTML WG and DeviceAPIs WG, during the meeting week and talk with them about the Web and TV requirements.
