I have some real world examples of links that immediately follow their
description without being programmatically associated:

* http://slashdot.org/ (the Read More links, the X and Y in "X of Y
comments")
* http://www.ancestry.com/ (the 1930... links for the US census records)
* http://www.imdb.com/ (the Trailer and DVD links)
