Great to see continued interest in the POI format from the web community. The launch of the SWG was delayed until recently, and SWG participation requires OGC membership. However, we hope to have public comment periods early and often, and my personal hope is that after the basic POI framework is finished, extensions for things like Augmented Reality, historical gazetteers, etc. can be worked via the W3C Community Groups mechanism. 

I'll try to get the charter posted to the web, and the POI work should be more web-friendly in the near future, as we are moving the document to GitHub!
