I'm having trouble parsing that sentence.

Maybe related, maybe not, but I'd expect the subject and object of a
'sameThingAs' assertion to be of the same type, whereas they'd be different
for 'about'.  "Subject of" and equivalence are different concepts, as I
think you were pointing out.
