RE: EBU position on IMSC 1.1 features (fillLineGap, activeArea, linePadding and multiRowAlign)

Here is a rather similar statement from HbbTV.
HbbTV is aware of the discussion regarding the potential deprecation of the fillLineGap, activeArea, linePadding and multiRowAlign features in IMSC 1.1.

HbbTV requires support for the EBU-TT-D profile of TTML in its 2.0.1 specification and has invested a lot in test material for this.
HbbTV 2.0.1 is implemented in many connected TVs sold in the European market in 2017 and is expected to be implemented in most connected TVs sold in the European market in 2018.

As a user of TTML specifications and a customer for the work of the W3C Timed Text Markup Group, HbbTV would like to express the following opinion.

The fillLineGap, activeArea, linePadding and multiRowAlign features should continue to be supported unchanged both in terms of syntax and namespace (and not be deprecated) in IMSC 1.1, because they are essential features specified in multiple broadcast standards and supported in current and upcoming CE devices.

Changing the current specification as proposed could seriously risk the standing of IMSC and its market adoption by hardware manufacturers, for which specification stability is an important aspect.
