Spec question. Dynamic Flow

I'm attempting to gauge the feasibility of implementing dynamic flow (at least to the extent of a smooth rollup and crawl) but am not sure I'm understanding it correctly.

If I have content which overflows its region in both the horizontal and vertical direction. How do I tell the pixel flow function which direction I want it to run in?
