Subject: Tracking Protection Working Group Revised Charter Approved;
join the Tracking Protection Working Group (Call for Participation)

Dear Advisory Committee Representative,

Chairs,

We are pleased to announce the re-chartering of the Tracking Protection
Working Group:

  https://www.w3.org/2016/11/tracking-protection-wg.html

This group is chartered through 31 December 2017.

The Working Group would like to continue Recommendation-track focus work
on the TPE specification: an HTTP header to signal the preference and a
site's response, and the use of an ECMAScript API or DOM property for
the same purpose.

A main focus for the extended implementation phase is to demonstrate the
viability of TPE to address the requirements for managing cookie and
tracking consent that satisfies the requirements of EU privacy legislation.

Please use the following form to join the group. The form will also
instruct you how to nominate participants:

  https://www.w3.org/2004/01/pp-impl/49311/join

The Working Group co-Chairs are Carl Cargill (Adobe) and Matthias
Schunter (Intel). The Team Contact is Bert Bos <bert@w3.org
<mailto:bert@w3.org>>, for a total of 0.1 FTE.

More information may be found on the Group homepage:

Results of the Call for Review

------------------------------

We called for review of the proposed Tracking Protection Working Group
charter on 25 November 2016:

  https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-ac-members/2016OctDec/0047.html

26 Members expressed support for the recharter:

  https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/33280/tracking-2016/results

One Member did not support the Charter, without raising a Formal
Objection, due to the lack of adoption of the TPE specification. The
main focus of the Working Group is to demonstrate the viability of TPE.

This announcement follows section 7.1.2 of the W3C Process Document:

  http://www.w3.org/2015/Process-20150901/#ACReviewAfter

and the Call for Participation follows section 5.2.4 of the W3C Process
Document:

  http://www.w3.org/2015/Process-20150901/#cfp

Thank you,

For Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director,

Philippe Le Hegaret, Projet Management Lead, Wendy Seltzer, Strategy
Lead, Bert Bos, Tracking Protection Team Contact; Coralie Mercier, Head
of W3C Marketing & Communications
