It has come to our attention that Peter Cranstone has been discussing with participants in the Tracking Protection Working Group US patent 8,156,206, claim #22, in relation to the Tracking Preference Expression specification.

In accordance with section 7 of the W3C patent policy [0], we will follow the steps in [1], and expect to propose chartering a Patent Advisory Group (PAG) to W3C management.  In the meantime, please refrain from discussion of the substance of this patent on the WG mailing list.  Please direct questions about the process and this patent to Rigo Wenning, W3C legal counsel, at rigo@w3.org, CC team-legal@w3.org.
