Betreff: Data mining as a means to protect privacy in social networks

Dear all,

I am currently supervising a Master thesis which researches which private attribute of individuals can be deduced from their social network. The ultimate goal is to create a tool that predicts such attribute before entering additional data into the social network.

In order to get a solid base for experiments we are currently gathering data via Facebook. My student Bianca (cc) has developed the application "Hidden Profile". You find the application after a successful login to Facebook by clicking on the following link:

https://apps.facebook.com/hidden_profile/

Please support her research and find out for yourself what information your friends can indirectly reveal about you.

The time needed is minimal. All data are treated anonymously and confidentially. A detailed description of the privacy policy followed is given there as well.

If you have any question please do not hesitate and contact me or Bianca.

Thank you in advance,

Peter
