This note is to announce the completion of the TAG's work on Web
Application State management. Details of the project are available on the
product page [1], which lists the following goals:

* The TAG comes to consensus on good (and bad) practices relating to the
use of URIs for identifying and tracking the state of Web applications. The
analysis will include, but not be limited, to script-driven (e.g.
AJAX-style) applications that are used to display documents (email, maps,
spreadsheets, etc.)

* The TAG publishes either a full W3C Recommendation or a TAG finding that
effectively communicates the issues and good practices to the Web technical
community.

Both of these goals have been achieved. A TAG finding "Web Application
State" [2] was announced [3] on 21 December 2011, several weeks ahead of
schedule, and the product page [1] has been updated to reflect completion
of this work.

TAG work in this area began with a draft of a recommendation-track document
"W3C Usage Patterns For Client-Side URI parameters", edited by then TAG
member T.V. Raman in 2009. The TAG has decided not, for the moment, to
pursue publishing either document on the recommendation track. A W3C Note,
announcing the change in status of [3], will be published shortly. The TAG
thanks Raman and current TAG member Ashok Malhotra for their editorial
contributions to our work in this are.
